Patrick,

This may not help much, but, my grandfather's name was Patrick Sylvester COLEBANK, and an uncle is named Kenneth B. COLEBANK. However, both were born in the tiny town of COLEBANK, West Virginia, U.S.A. You would be hard put to find it on any map (see U.S.G.S. 7 1/2 minute topo map COLEBANK).

My grandfather's great-grandfather, Peter COLEBANK is believed to have been born in Virginia U.S.A about 1752. It has been recorded that Peter's father was Samuel COLEBANK, and that he may be from around Gosforth / Nether Wasdale, Cumbria, Eng.

There are many COLEBANKs here in the States, and a few who are interested in genealogy. You might want to drop Donna SUMMER a line (she initiated this site), she has a lot of information, and a separate site that includes photos of some American COLEBANKs.

I'd be happy to share what I have with you, and would of course be pleased if you could share anything you may have on your English relatives.

Jeff
