If you receive this, email me about the COLEGATE / COLGATE line from Maryland... I'm heavy researching them right now, (I am not related, but this is for something of value to their rememberance)... just remind me that you read my posting so I'll know who you are etc...if anyone reads this and this is your line (3 lines entered America and they're all aligned way back)... email me if you wish to help. Sir Colonel Richard COLEGATE (COLGATE) b. Mar 1675 Cranbrook, Essex England - 1 source and/or Oct 18, 1674 - another source; both found at Enoch Pratt; died Jan 18, 1722 and is buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, O'Donnell Street, Baltimore City, Maryland (Northeast of Canton) on hilltop overlooking I95. Property was sold to Canton Company by heirs in mid 1800's; company formed was "The Cemetery Corp." Sir Richard COLEGATE was m. to Rebecca HARCOURT (HERBERT) ca 1700. Save to assume MD as Richard arrived in MD prior to 1795 if not much sooner. Old homestead called, "Garretson" on Powell's Point but if you live in Dundalk, Balto Co MD you'd know that Colegate Creek base is where original homestead was - he might have had more then 1. Old St Paul's where they attended, Temperance only 1 recorded there, is gone but in 1935 someone wrote that they could still see foundation. Owned land in Anne Arundel, Baltimore City & County, Cecil, Harford and New Castle DEL where son Richard Jr died in 1759; buried 2 miles from Odessa, DEL on Cantwell Garretson Farm (info from Sunday Herald, Feb 5, 1893). Richard Sr had 7 children: just to mention a few - John, Richard Jr, and the 3 daughters: I have a photo of his/family massive headstone at Mt Carmel reportedly made of "Irish Marble". More info... email me and I'll send you to photos, story online history.lover@verizon.net Chrystie Notify Administrator about this message?
