Richard Colgate was in Balt. Co. by 1700. as a taxable in n.side of Patapsco Hund.;died 1721/2;m.Rebecca dau. of Eleanor Herbert;Rebecca m. 2nd. James Powell;Colgate was a factor for the London merchants of Thomas Yoakley and Petter, admin. the estates of John Leasor and Miles Temple in April 1707,and was a delegate to the Assembly from Balto. Co. at various sessions,1707 to 1721,and held military ranks of captain, colonel, and major;his will,Aug. 8, 1721 - February 16,1721/2 named wife Rebecca and 7 children;est. inv. at L3,792.17.8 and held over 5000 acres of land; admin. bond posted April 26, 1722 by extx. Rebecca Colegate with Thomas Hammond and Lance Todd and John Dorsey; est. admin. on Oct. 20, 1724 and June 10,1731; had issue; Prudence, m. John Talbott on Jan. 10,1726/7;Patience m. Sept. 20, 1724 William Buckner and m. 2nd. by June 1733 George Elliott; Richard b. March 10,1710;Temperance b. Feb. 24, 1712;John b. March 5, 1713;Thomas b. Jan.22,1716; Benjamin b. Nov.2, 1719.
