I found the following while looking something else up and thought it may be of interest to this forum.
John Conant, born in Stow, MA Jan. 20, 1790, son of John & Huldah (Hobart) Conant. Came to Jaffrey, NH in 1816 and bought the Thorndike Farm. Conant High School, first called the Conant Free High School, owes its existence to John Conant. He had no children to leave his money so he donated $7,000 which established the school. He died April 6, 1877 at age 87 and is buried in Conant Cemetery (he donated the land for the cemetery), Jaffrey, NH.
