You have the names reversed. Charles was his first name. Leslie was the middle name. Reverend Conder was a missionary with the Church Army. Reverend Conder did missionary work in the Sewanee Tennessee Valley, and was director of an orphanage in Guntersville, Alabama. The orphanage was the "house of happiness." Conder worked at the house from 1935 to 1937. He married a local girl, Mary Alves, who was one of nine children. I have the original handwritten letters that Charles Conder wrote and mailed home to his family in Yorkshire England. His parents were MR. and Mrs. M. Conder, 24 Tinber St, Elland Yorkshire, England. My hobby is buying old letters and diaries. I bought them on ebay from a guy in California who said it was part of an inheritance. He had a trunk full of letters. I bougte batch of letters from 1935 to 1937 which were written during Conder's work at te House of Happiness. The letters speak of his engagement to Mary Alves. They were planning an Easter 1936 wedding. He bought her a yellow-gold engagement ring with one large diamond, and three small diamonds on each side of the large diamond. For being a missionary, he got 10% off, plus a free case. The letters include discussion of his missionary work, and mentions things of agricultural interest.
