I was made aware that the Sorenson y-chromosome database contains a DNA sample from a descendant of Thomas Vinyard Cotten through his son Walter R. Cotten. We have a Cotton/Cotten project with over 30 participants but this man is not among them. Unfortunately Sorenson does not list the name or contact information for contributors. I would like to invite this individual to join our project. If you know who he is, please let me know how I can contact him or have him contact me. The contributor may be a Larry Bryan Cotten of Washington who posted a lineage chart for this family on a related website. The results would appear to connect Benjamin Cotten, born 1786 in Edgefield Co., SC to the family of John Cotten of Bertie Co., NC.
I would also like to invite any other male Cottons/Cottens to join our project. We have made a number of interesting discoveries since the project began. You can visit the project website at http://cottondna.family.nf/ .
