My GGGrandfather, FRANCIS NELSON COUNTEE, was born in the USA about 1833.It is rumoured within the family that he had at one time been a slave.His fathers name, (taken from marriage cert. of Francis) was SUNNON COUNTEE. At some time before 1865,Francis made his way to England where he married a MARIA PEASE at Bethnal Green in Dec 1865. Their marriage certificate showed that he was a widower so he had been married before, maybe in the USA.
I would like to hear from anyone with any information regarding the name COUNTEE.
