Charles Crew was born at Longcott in Berkshire around 1825 (father John Crew), married in Ely, Cambs. He had 2 daughters, Sophia and Clarie in London (1851 and 1854) a daughter Mary Ann (my grandmother)born in Doncaster, 1856, and 2 daughters, Emma and Maria born in York (1860 and 1858). Charles worked on the railways, as a fireman, engine driver and Guard. In the 1861 Census the family were living in Darlington. His wife Sophia was living in Leeds in 1871 and 1881 (a widow). I can't find Charles in the 1871 Census in England and Wales. If this information strikes any chords, please contact me.
