Hi Mervyn,

Selina will not be a direct ancestor of mine but there will no doubt be a connection. Netherton was merely a vilage at that time.

As far as I can tell James Crew (b.1818) was the son of a Nathaniel Crew. This is not yet confirmed.

It would seem that Nathaniel CREW, a brother Issac and perhaps other CREWs moved to Netherton in the latter half of the 1700s (at the onset of the Industrial Revolution) and the need for extraction of Iron Ore in the Black Country meant this was a place for them to find work.

As far as I can see there were two CREW families living in Netherton descended from Nathaniel and Issac and I believe there were more brothers and sisters.

One of James Crew's daughters (Mary) seems to have married across to another Crew from the area so Mary may possibly have married one of Selina's brothers?

I'm afraid I cannot be much more helpful as births, deaths and marriages in the Dudley area only began in the early 1800s so the information for Nathaniel and Issac is vague. However I have the feeling it is sound hypothesis as an older cousin of mine had this information and past it onto me and he was passed this information via our shared Grandfather, Francis CREW.

I believe, but again this is simply an educated guess, that Nathanile and Issac migrated to the Black Country from Somerset as good example of the migration of arable workers moving to industrial work at that time.

My family tree is available in Genes Reunited if you wish to view it please lodge a request with that website and you may certainly have access granted by me.

I hope this is of help.

Very best wishes,

Iain Crew
