.....Also of significance that I failed to mention. In the census of 1860 and 1870, Penelope, with her new husband, Irving Locklear, is found in Manatee, Florida within a few households of Dempsey DuBois Crews, and other Crews family members depending on the year. The spelling is corrupted particularly bad in one year, with the name 'Irwin Lockleyer' being transcribed. I suspect Penelope was born in Georgia as all her later census entries reflect that and we know her parents ultimately settled there, but then she gives her son Charles such variety. First he is Charles W.C. born in La., then he is Charles Crine, born Texas, then finally he is Charles Lockler(lear) born Florida. My guess is that Lydia Crews supplied the information for the 1850 census, while Penelope would be speaking for herself in later years. I wonder what the story is of Penelope and her young son that seems to have been a source of perhaps some distress. Notify Administrator about this message?
