There was a Richard Curtis who enlisted in the 32nd Virginia Infantry as a private in Company A in Hampton Va. at the age of 22 and served on the CSS Virginia, he was still alive in 1907. It is possible he was also in the Virginia Militia prior to enlisting, as many Virginians were.
