SHREVEPORT, LA - A memorial service celebrating the life of Alice Rose Curtis Brown will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Reverend Guido F. Verbeck III and The Reverend Paul D. Martin. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.

Alice was born April 4, 1927, in Marshall, Texas, and passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Live Oak Retirement Community. She was a cradle Episcopalian, christened, confirmed and married at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall, Texas. A graduate of Marshall High School, Alice attended Texas State College for Women (TWU) in Denton, Texas. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Secretarial Science from Centenary College of Louisiana in 1948. Alice was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity while at Centenary. For many years, she served as the Alumnae Class Agent for the Centenary College Class of 1948.

She met Charles Ellis Brown while attending Centenary and they were married on September 3, 1949. They celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary this year. In 1960, after living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi, Alice, Charles and their children moved to Shreveport where they have since lived.

Alice was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild for many years. She was also a member of the Shreveport Geological Society Auxiliary and served on the board for an extended period.

Her parents, William Clayborn and Alice Yetta Brunson Curtis, and her sister, Cathryn Louise Curtis Turner, preceded Alice in death. Alice is survived by her loyal, loving husband, Charles Ellis Brown; her daughter, Ellice Brown Richardson and husband Dr. James Allan Richardson, of Baton Rouge, LA; her son, C. Ellis Brown Jr. and wife Bobra Kay Brown, of Shreveport, LA; her sister, Carolyn Frances Curtis Warren, of Shreveport, LA; and her grandchildren, Captain Todd Brown Richardson, USMC, and wife Jolene Rachelle Richardson, Christopher Ellis Brown, Sally Brown Richardson, Alan Michael Brown, Alissa Kay Brown, and Paul Cavett Brown.

Honoring Alice as pallbearers will be her four grandsons along with Albert Carl Poole and Michael Henry Russell.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Alice's sitters and the staff of Live Oak Retirement Community for their dedication and love.

The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 275 Southfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71105; Centenary College of Louisiana, 2911 Centenary Boulevard, Shreveport, LA 71104; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
