Looking for any information on the children of David Dallby or Dalby b1740 and Elizabeth Cade of Howden, East Yorkshire. In particular interested in the following: (1) Octavius Dalby b1784. There is an Octavius Dalby who turns up in London, d1839, variously described as 'gentleman' and 'customs officer': he and his children are fairly well documented in London (Stepney etc) from about 1811 onwards. (2) Augustus Dalby b1779. There is an Augustus Dalby in the Royal Navy, promoted to Master in 1801, and it seems to be this one who settles in Penzance and St Ives, Cornwall and becomes owner or purser of Reeth Consols tin mine in the 1840s. Listed in the 1841 census as 'Navy'. He had three daughters Amelia, Mary, and Caroline, none of whom married and who are listed in Saltash in the 1871 and 1881 census. Other children as well ? And is this really the August Dalby from Howden ? Was 21-22 too young an age to be promoted to Master ? (3) We have no information at all on Jonathan b1768, David b1769, Hannah b1771, Joseph b1780 Simeon b1781, Henrietta b1787. All born in Howden - but did some or all of them move away from there ? Sorry, lots of questions, few answers. Would be grateful for any ideas. Most of the Howden info so far just from IGI online records. Notify Administrator about this message?
