Hi Craig, On reflection, I think it is a reasonable bet that your Dugald was from Clachan and related to my GGG grandfather George Darroch, but not necessarily George's brother. For one thing, the 1881 note only mentions three sons. Most importantly, there were a number of Dugald Darrochs in Clachan (all no doubt related). The Kilcalmonell & Kilberry militia list of 1797, for example, lists 67 young men in the district 18-24 years old, and includes Dugald Darroch of Clachan, occupation "tailor with father". This would most probably be the Dugald Darroch booked to marry Mary McCallum on 10 August 1802. It is well within the bounds of possibility that this Dugald and Mary were the parents of your GGG grandmother 16 years later. In fact, it sounds much more plausible than that George's brother Dugald married another Mary McCallum. Have you checked for death certificates on Scots Online? If not, that has to be the first thing you do. Let us know how you get on. Cheers Peter Notify Administrator about this message?
