Hi Ian,
I have a KARL DAUTEL, who lived in REUTLINGEN ( near STUTTGART) Wuerttemberg. I do not have a birth date but he was in WWI ( I guess he was around 20 yrs then) and must have been connected to the HAMMER family in Reutlingen/Pfullingen. I have a postcard he wrote from France in 1914 where he was stationed - to his Aunt BERTHA HAMMER in Reutlingen. The HAMMER family are my grandmothers maternal line.
I have not yet found the connection how he is related.
In case you have some HAMMER names please let me know.
