Waitstill Hartley is said to have been a weaver from Shropshire, England, and an immigrant in 1740, and said to have lived in Frederick County, Maryland, and died in Frederick County, Virginia. His wife's name is unknown. Waitstill is further said to have had a daughter, Mahala, who married John Dinwiddie. Waitstill's son John Hartley was in Burke County, (present Caldwell County) North Carolina by 1788. Nothing appears in the Hartley annals about the further history of Mahala and her John Dinwiddie. Does anyone recognize them?
