I wonder if your Distins have any connection with ours. Information from the 1881 census gives us Robert Distin who was then a Staff Sergeant in the 5th Royal Lancashire Militia, living Ebergham Eaves near Burnley in Lancashire, but his birthplace is given as London St Lukes, Middlesex. He had [known] daughters:
Mary DISTIN age 15 in 1881
Edith DISTIN age 8 in 1881
Elizabeth DISTIN age 6 in 1881
and Susan Marian [May], born later in 1881.
His wife was Bridget, from Ireland.
Robert would have been born approx. 1827.
