I am looking into Jonathan Doak who was supposedly a son of Josiah Doak (b. abt. 1788 in North Carolina). I have read many of the posts about how Josiah and/or his brother William was/were the owner(s) of Doak’s Stand in Mississippi and how Josiah moved to Indian Territory ahead of the Indian removal and that the area he settled in became known as Doaksville (Oklahoma).
I also read in one post that Josiah died about 1840 in Oklahoma.
I wonder if a person I have found in the censuses (1850 and 1860) is the same Josiah Doak.
In 1850 there is a Joseph S Doak, age 61, b. NC with William H Doak, age 21, b. Miss., living in Nueces County, Texas.
In the 1850 Slave Schedule of the Nueces County, Texas area, there is a Josiah Doak listed as a slave owner (he is listed in between two persons in the same area as “Joseph S Doak” in the Federal census).
I believe that Josiah’s wife and 3 other children are in the 1850 census in Collin County, Texas in McKinney. The 3 boys and mother are listed as Elizabeth, age 40, b. Va; D., age 18, b. Choctaw Nation; R., age 13, b. Miss; and V., age 7, b. Miss., living in the Martin household.
In 1860 there is a Josiah Doak(s?) listed in Nueces County, Texas, age 73, b. Virginia living in the household of J Randolph, merchant.
In the 1860 slave schedule he is listed as J S Doaks.
Does anyone have proof of Josiah’s death around 1840?
If so, can anyone figure out who this Josiah/Joseph Doak in Nueces County, Texas is descended from? Is there a will or known death date or burial place for Josiah S. Doak?

I have connected my ggggrandfather Jonathan Doak as Josiah’s son first based on someone’s Rootsweb information, then from the 1850 Collin County, Texas census (I think the R stands for Robert---all 3 sons are listed with only their middle name’s initial in the census; my gggrandfather’s name is Robert) and from the 1870 Grenada, MS census where Jonathan’s birthplace is Choctaw Nation. I can’t find him or his wife anywhere after the 1870 census.
If anyone has more info on Jonathan Doak (married Rebecca Wilson in 1856 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi) that would be GREAT. Thanks!
