Joseph Doan was my great grandfather. He was the son of Jonathan Doan and Ester Elizabeth Kaake of Sanilac County. They immigrated from Norfolk, Ontario in 1877. And I've traced the roots back to England in 1569. About Joe: He was township supervisor, treasurer, constable, conservation officer, etc of Sheridan Township. That is because there was only seven people living in the county. He was married twice. His first wife was Sarah Clarinda Godley and they had 12 children. One daughter died at 15 days old and another daughter at two months. The other's grew to adulthood and three are still alive. One of which is my grandmother. His second wife, Myrtle Amelia Card and he had 16 children. One was a stillbirth (Linda, buried on the Bomanville, Sheridan Township property) and one died at age 1. Twelve of the children from the second family are still alive. I don't know how much information you would like. Joe's Bar is still located on the corner of Bowanville Rd, now owned by a private family and used as a garage. This was the "Devil's Corner" mentioned in the Gladwin History. Two son's still live out on the old property. The dirt road is still called Mosquito Alley on the Gladwin maps. I have a couple of pictures of the whole family gathered together and they are an amazing sight! Stair step children lined up in front. The family has spread all over the country and thanks to Joe and his fertile wives, there are over two hundred living "direct" relatives. Notify Administrator about this message?
