I would love to get my hands on that photo - I have just finished the centennial history of Beaverton, Michigan and am just gearing up to begin compiling a sesquicentennial history of Gladwin County. Pictures like that are very useful for the biographies and family histories book, which will be volume 1 of the sesquicentennial history. Just for the record, so others won't be confused by it, the County had a large population, but Sheridan Township by that time had very few registered voters remaining - which is the reason it was dissolved and made part of Grim Township. You may be interested to know that Mosquito Alley began life as a forest railroad line - as did the Sterling Truck Trail. These were not the heavy haul rail lines, but lines built by or for the lumber companies to get their lumber either to a mill or to a place where they could be floated to the downstream mills. Those lines were taken up as soon as the lumber was gone. You may notice that I have posted a picture of old Bomanville with its railroad tracks clearly visible. It is at www.GladwinHistory.org Most of the Doan family lived at a place that was once a promising settlement called Cherry Hill. It never made it to the level of being a town because people quickly found that the topsoil there could support farming for only a very few years -- and the poor drainage made it nearly impossible to get their crops planted or harvested during their seasons. I made notes somewhere on tidbits of the everyday happenings of the Doan family at Cherry Hill that appeared in the Gladwin County Record over the years the community was in existence. When I find them, I will post another message for all to see. Bob Frei Notify Administrator about this message?
