Doris -- I tried to send this via email, but it bounced back. Thought I'd try adding it to the forum... This may be information you already have... I've been researching my 3g grandparents, Macabeio (spelling varies) and Margretha (Pfeffer) Forni. According to a family genealogy that my great Aunt prepared, Maccabe immigrated from Switzerland with a cousin, "A. Dotta," and possibly one other cousin. (One of the cousins may have returned to Switzerland). One of the Dotta cousins was said to have settled the farm next to Maccabe's in Powhatan Point, Ohio. According to census information, in 1850, there was a Charles Dotta (misspelled DOTY) living next to Maccabe and Margaret (Monroe County, Switzerland Twp). Here's the census information: 1850 census, Monroe Co., OH; Switzerland Twp, p. 198B Charles Doty - age 50, Farmer, born in Switzerland Mary - age 40 - wife - born in Switzerland Elizabeth - 17 Charles - 15 (I believe this is the Charles Dotta who married Johanna Hassig) Jacob - 13 John - 11 Catharine - 9 Mary - 7 William - 3 Caroline - 1 month I've been unable to pick up the thread from the time Maccabe arrived in the U.S. (He was born in Betretto, Canton, Tessin, Schweiz (Switzerland), in 1800) and have been trying to find the Dotta connection to see if that might lead me to more of Maccabe's family, since they were said to be cousins. I'm afraid I don't have much more than that. Perhaps, if Charles and Maccabe WERE cousins, and they came to the US together as family history may indicate, Charles was also born in Betretto? As a side note (thought I don't think this connects) Maccabe met Margaretha Pfeffer (daughter or Fred Pfeffer and Mary Kuhn) on the ship coming to America, and my aunt indicated that Maccabe (traveling with the Dotta's) disembarked in New York before going to Ohio. Margaretha stayed in New York until Maccabe had settled the farm, at which time he returned to NY, married her, and brought her back to Ohio. She lived to be 91. Maccabe's name may also have been Albenio Maccabeio Forni. Debbie Notify Administrator about this message?
