I am seeking information about the ancestors and descendants of Emanuel Dowd who left his Last Will and Testament recorded in Duplin Co. NC . It was written by Emanuel Dowd of Duplin Co. NC being old and knows not the day of my (dark smudge) of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to (smudge) bring to mind the etc .... leaves to Wileby (Willouby?) Dowd, & James Dowd, & Sarah Dowd each one shilling. Likewise to John Dowd I gave (confirmed as "gave") and bequeth in witness seven hundred acres of land in the county and province aforesaid with the rest of my estate on Sarah Dowd, my wife to have a loan of the (farm? land?) during widowhood and acknowledge this to be my last Will and Testament and no other April the 2nd day 1778. The above said John Dowd and Sarah Dowd, the said wife to be Executors. Signed Emanuel (his E Mark) Dowd Signed and Delivered in present of us Fleet Cooper, John Cooper, Sr. (These two men are sons of Fleet Cooper Senior and wife Margaret Coore. Fleet Cooper and Emanual Dowd owned adjoining property according to deeds recorded in Duplin Co. NC Fleet Cooper now of Sampson Co. NC. Other adjoining land owners were William Wiggins, Bailey Fisher and James Cook on the Great Cohera. Baily Fisher, brick layer, sold 200 acres, part of his land to Fleet Cooper in 1772. Sale witnessed by Nehemiah Scott and John Cooper. Other facts: During the same time period that Emanual Dowd was in Duplin Co. NC, there is a Connor Dowd in Cumberland Co. NC. Cumberland Co. and Sampson Co. is connected by a river. Probably is some connection of Emanuel to Connor Dowd but how. Any information on the lineage of Emanuel Dowd would be much appreciated.
