Hi David - Yes, I'm still here at this address. I have had this as my work address and have used it all this time since it seems to change far less than the home address. Don't worry if I don't answer promptly sometimes as I may be away for the weekend or out on business, but I eventually catch up. I can monitor the Forum from any computer though of course. Anyway, that's great that you have some of the original newsletters of Clipper's. He passed away when I was only a few years old, so I don't really remember him. He and my great grandfather were first cousins and knew each other well. My great grandfather David Earl "Bud" Dowland also died when I was very young. I would love to see some of those to see if it would clear up some of the book's problems. I happened to have the book at work this week as I was looking up information for another of our cousins in Colorado who contacted me last week. Someday, I'd love to take the time and update the entire book, but that's likely years away. I have found some great stuff concerning the earliest of our known ancestors that needs to be corrected in the book. You've probably already read some of the posts about Henry Dowland I's early years. C.Reid has him as born in England and coming directly to North Carolina, but he was definitely around more than a decade before that in upper Virginia and present-day West Virginia. I have a feeling that he may have even been born in America rather than in England. I checked the book to see where your line fits in (if the book is accurate here). According to the book, and you may already have all this, Henry Dowland III was the father of 13 or 14 children including my ggg grandfather Timothy Dowland, C. Reid Dowland's father Emerson E. Dowland, and your ancestor Henry Jackson Dowland, born 9/6/1806, died 7/16/1859. His baptism is recorded in a church in North Carolina on 2/16/1807. His first wife (married 1/16/32) was Matilda Williams. Henry's second wife is listed as Sarah Harron (married 7/31/1842). The book lists the marriage record as "Henry Doling and Sarah Hearn" so I don't know what her correct name was. The children of Henry J. don't have the birthdates listed except for the first (1843). Maybe the rest of the children were after the second marriage as well? Henry J. Dowland's third child is listed as "Sis" Dowland, who married Joe Prince, Hollow Rock, TN. The children are listed as "Erastus; Harrison; Orville; Eula; Jessie; Lester." No birthdates or further details are listed for the line. I would definitely enjoy sharing things, so if there's something particulat you are after, just let me know. Thanks for the message, Terry Davis Knoxville, TN Notify Administrator about this message?
