You need to say where your Downer family is from. Name of your grandfather Downer, perhaps? Work back from nowadays through each generation.

I am researching as follows:

Henry DOWNER (a gardener) married Sarah GREEN, and their son William Henry DOWNER was born May 1841, baptised July 1841 at Bishops Waltham, Hampshire, England.

This William Henry DOWNER (a tailor) moved to Winchester, married Frances HOARE there in 1863. Later, their family moved to Reading, Berkshire (William worked in a biscuit factory) by the time of the 1881 census.
