I have just discovered something in the Eakin line that seems to be a mistake. You may all want to correct your databases. Regarding children of David & Mary McIntire Eakin....we have their youngest daughter as Amanda Jane Eakin born 1838. This is also in the book "Families of Falls County" at the Genealogy Library. I did some census look-ups and found in 1850 Jasper Co, Ms the family of David and Mary: (I copied this page from the microfiche also.) David age 66 Carpenter born Ireland Mary age 64 born Ireland Elias age 21 Farmer born Miss Amanda J SHEPPARD age 12 born Miss This Amanda Jane is their granddaughter (daughter of Rebecca & Absolom Sheppard). I think we knew that she was living with her grandparents at that time. Anyway, if there is an Amanda Jane as daughter of David & Mary, why wasn't she on the census. I started looking and thinking. This Amanda Sheppard was 12 in 1850, so was born abt 1838.....same yr that we show the other Amanda Jane. Also, Mary was 64 in 1850, so would have been 52 when Amanda was born. May be possible to have a child at that age in this day and time, but not in 1838. I don't think there was an Amanda Jane Eakin. Somehow down the line Amanda Jane was mistaken for a daughter, when she was a granddaughter. Maybe you already have known this, and I am just now realizing it. If you think I am wrong or have proof that there was a youngest daughter named Amanda Jane Eakin, please let me know. Thanks Pat Hargus Sommerfield sommertex2@aol.com
