Census takers were notoriously poor at spelling names, and this may be a case of that. On the other hand, it may be that Eakin/Aiken/Akin folks moving into areas that were heavily German may have adopted the somewhat more common spelling to "fit in". In one of my families, there are three spellings for the siblings. Apparently, the census taker's mind was elsewhere that day. Notify Administrator about this message?
