In researching a man who married into my Moore family, I ran across a 1900 census that had him living as a newphew with the Thibalder EDWARD family in Township 43, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota.
1900
Rene Scheffer
Home in 1900: Township 43, Crow Wing, Minnesota
Age: 21
Estimated birth year: abt 1879
Birthplace: Minnesota
Relationship to head-of-house: Nephew
Race: White
Occupation: View image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Ihibader Edward 46 b. Nov. 1853 in Canada.
Eliza R Edward 48 b. March 1851 in Canada
Rene Scheffer 21 he was a farm laborer

I know that Rene's mother was a PLANTE from Canada, so possibly Eliza was a PLANTE.
The census image had "T" rather than "I" for "Ihibader" Edward.

The EDWARD family was not in the US census for 1880 or 1910.
They may have moved back to Canada.

Rene was in the Philippine Islands in the army in 1910.
