Ellerbee Family Genealogy Forum

William, thanks for the information that you have posted. First, I want to mention that the government has a photo of a "captain John Ellerbee" in it's archives on the www. I have wondered if he is related to us. Second, like many Ellerbee descendants, I have heard that there is Cherokee (or seminole?) blood in the family. Neither, myself nor Patricia Gallops, can tell if it is on the Ellerbee side or the Grantham side. This is a widespread rumour that has spanned decades. Alice Byler had emailed me a photo of Mary Jane Grantham and her two twin sons, Loyd and Floyd. They could of passed for being part indian. But, we are having trouble tracking down who the person was. The Grantham researchers have also told me that there is no indian blood in there side. But, I don't know if that is the final word. Oddly enough, I have tracked down a Seminole Ellerbee in the southern part of Florida and they have some names similar to those in our Ellerbee family. Also, I have heard from some Ellerbee's across the country who claim some Cherokee ancestry. Walter Pitts had told me he was a quarter Cherokee, but not on the Ellerbee-Grantham side. He is over ninety years old, and I noticed that his memory was failing. If you can help me or Patricia, and the rest of the Ellerbees it would be much appreciated. Ben Eble
