Hi Chris,

I can trace my family line back to a William Elsdon who was living in Quyas Green, Toppesfield, Essex (I think it is actually spelt as Quys Green) at the time of the 1881 census.

Here is how the family is listed in the census

William 47 Horsekeeper
Elizabeth 47 Straw Plaiter (nee Martin)
Louisa 20 Straw Plaiter
Alice 16 Straw Plaiter
Frederick 14 Agriculture Labourer
Henry 12 Scholar
Albert 10 Scholar
John 7 Scholar
Willie 2

They had another daughter Eliza (who would have been 20 at the time of the census) who was working away from home as a "domestic servant" - from whom I am descended.

Does this sound like it might connect with your Elsdon line?

I'm not sure when, but by the 1900's (or around there anyway) my family had moved to the Sidcup/St Marys Cray/St Pauls Cray area of Kent (I'm not sure of the exact location but that general area anyway)- not that far from you.

By the 1930's my grandparents moved to Chislehurst Kent, and I still have family living in Bromley, Hayes and Orpington !

Yvonne
