Hi Neil,
I can't believe this! I have been trying to find connections to Elsdens in SE England for ages, difficult from the other side of the world. I was born in Colchester Essex , 6/8/46 my father was George William Elsden, born Colchester 22/6/21 and my grandfather was George Henry Elsden born Colchester but I don't know the date. We emigrated to New Zealand in 1952, though I now live in Brisbane, Australia. We had heard that the name Elsden is possibly of Dutch origin, and of course there is the Dutch Quarter in Colchester so possible connections there. My cousin is supposed to be doing some research for me (her mother was also an Elsden) but she is rather slack about it! Hope to hear from you to see if we may possibly be connected. There are quite a lot of Elsdens in Australia, but as far as I can tell from telephone directories, only my brother in New Zealand. I am confused about the alternative spelling of Elsdon, never realised there was any connection.
Regards,
Pat Down Under
