Hi

The spelling of Emms,Ems,Hemms,Hems, is immaterial when looking far back in history, most people of these and other names are still blood related somewhere back in time. In the past, most people couldn't read and write and relied entirely on one person doing the census etc who could read and write to indicate who was living at a particular address. Hence the different spellings of all surnames.

Please have a look at my web site, the particular page on a German link to Rudolph von Ems and the castle that still remains on the shores of Lake Constance.

Kind regards
Estelle Emms:-)
