Thanks ever so much for the response. I picked up the spelling of Vallentine Ethington from his Land Patent dated 1 Nov 1858, in Coffee CO., AL. This was the only Ethington that I found in Coffee CO. and I assume that he is related to Lus(?) Ethington who was married to W. W. Smyth. This info was provided on a death cert. for one of their sons, James Madison Smith. Lus must be short for some given name.
