No, not really. I had high hopes. The Col Thomas EYRE, Governor of Devises & Hurst Castle during the end of King Charles I's reign, and Col William EYRE of Neston, a member of Parliament and a bit of a rogue, possibly even highwayman, was active in the conflict in Wiltshire during the Civil War. Unfortunately, I can find no record of a son, Robert, who would fit "my" Robert, born to either of them. Sigh..
I got quite excited about a Robert EYRE, son of John and Francis EYRE baptized 15 Jan 1652 at Great Chalfield, Wiltshire. That seemed a reasonable assumption given the strife in Wiltshire and England during that time period. However, an examination of the Great Chalfield parish register reveals a daughter, Margaret, baptised 24 Jan 1648/49, and a son, William, baptized 11 Jul 1650, as well as other children baptized to John & Frances; which effectively rules out this John and Frances EYRE as the parents of "my" Robert EYRE. Nor do we find any other birth or baptism of a Robert EYRE in the relevant time period at Great or Little Chalfield parish. Sigh.
Might have known that would have been too, too easy. Robert, William and John are the given names that are most frequent in "my" Robert EYRE's line.
