Gayle,

Here's what I know about my GGGF. He immigrated to America from Groningen in 1846. His name was Anthony, which maybe English for Antoon. He settled in Keokuk, where my GGF was born and his family lived, and died, while my GGF moved on to Portland, OR.

It seems that your Catharina could have been Anthony's little sister. The dates work, and it is too much of a coincidence about Keokuk. Not sure about GGGF Anthony's dob, but I know he was older than Catharina would have been. Anthony came over with two small children, one boy, one girl, and a nurse. My GGGM was ill, and subsequently died, either before, or soon after, the immigration to America. A nurse accompanied my GGGF, to care for the children, and subsequently became my GGGM, the mother of my GGF.

Enough about my family. Does any of this match info you have about Keokuk?

Write back when you get a chance. If this does match, I would like to know more about Catharina's father Joan, and more about the preceeding generations. By the way, another coincidence, Anthony's son he came to America with was named John. Is this English for Joan? Makes sense Anthony is named for his GGF, and John is named for his GF.

Thanks,
James M. Faber
