Thanks for answering my message. After all these many years of efforts by John Fanning Sr (died 1814 VA) researchers, so much about him and his descendents still remain a mystery. Cathy is by far the best researcher of our Fanning line and I hope she will add to this message. First of all, how extremely lucky could we get to find out that Joseph Fanning Sr (Old Joe) had a mutation in his YDNA that sets all of his numerous male descendents apart from all of his known brothers descendents? Very!!!!!!!! The Fanning YDNA genetic results has provided new details on just about every Fanning line in America that were either unknown or wrong. I would personally like to THANK everyone that has participated. What a show it has given us!!!!! Here is my list of Joseph Fanning's children. MOTHER UNKNOWN 1. John (born c1789/90 VA), Sarah Frazier MOTHER BARBARA DAVIS 2. Robert (born c1792 VA) 3. George Wash. (born c1793 VA), Rebecca Keltner 4. Joseph Jr (born c1795 VA), Mary (possibly #2 wife) 5. Abraham (born c1797 VA), Mrs. Nancy Thompson Galloway 6. Jacob (born c1799 VA), Mary Downs 7. Mary (born c1803 VA), David Walker 8. Deliliah (born c 1805 VA), Robert Houston 9. Sampson (born 4/20/1808 VA), Altha Criswell 10. Davis (born c1811 TN), Deratia Criswell 11. Andrew J. (born c1813 TN), Mary Sharp MOTHER MARY ________ 12. Nathan L. (born c1821 AL), Lindsey Sharp 13. Louisa (born c 1821 AL) 14. William (born c1824 AR) 15. Archibald (born c1827 IL) 16. Harriet (born c1832 IL) There is a possibility of one or more other daughters. One may have been the #2 wife of Isaac Lea. Those that remained in Illinois - George, Joseph, Abraham, Jacob and Sampson. Those that went to Arkansas - John, Mary, Deliliah, Davis, Andrew, Nathan, Louisa, William, Archibald and Harriet. Robert died 1816 in Florida of disease while serving in the War of 1812. Robert Fanning that married Mary McCurdy is now thought to be a son of your John. A Morgan County history book tells about Robert walking from TN to IL at age 12 (c1824) with his unnamed parents. Abraham and Jacob had led a large group of relatives, neighbors and friends from the TN/AL area to Morgan Co., IL, at that time. George and Joseph Jr had gone to Illinois in the Fall of 1818 with some of Rebecca Keltner's brothers so they were not Robert's father. Robert did go to AR for a very short time and returned to Morgan Co., IL, where he spent the remainder of his life. Hope this helps. Need additions, corrections and input.
