Eve, I'm glad someone could find him in the 1870 census. I have searched many times but could not find the correct record. Were tey in INdiana or Illinois in 1870? I have most of this infomation from the 1880 census whrn they were living in Michigan. What I am really trying to find are his parents names so that I can continue my search. I hope I haven't made too many errors in this mesaage. I had eye surgery this morning and am woeking with one eye ( not that my typing is ass that great with two. Thanks for any help. Pat
