I assume you are trying to trace back.

The 1930 census shows James S. French 45, wife Marie 34, sons Adam, Billy and Jim living in Los Angeles. It also shows James' widowed father Adam 72 who was born in Scotland. It shows James as born in Pennsylvania and both his parents born in Scotland. It shows Marie as born in Colorado and her parents born in Illinois and England.

The 1900 census shows Adam French born July 1858 in Scotland, wife Lizzie born May 1861 in Scotland wife several children including James born Aug 1884 in Pennsylvania living in Huerfano, Colorado. It indicates the parents had been married for 19 years and immigrated in 1882.

The 1920 census shows Adam in Colfax county, NM as a widower. In the 1910 census he is under the spelling of Franch also as a widower.

You can look at death certificate info for an unnamed child of the children of James and Mary at: http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=1195390820093#p=collectionDetails;c=1546466

The 1910 census shows Maryann Gillen 15 born in CO as the daughter of W. B. Gillen 39 and his wife Adalade 33 living in Huerfano, Colorado.. He was born in Illinois and she was born in England and they were married for 16 years. It also shows Adelaide immigrated 1883. It also shows W. B.'s parents were born in England. I was not able to find this family in any other census record.

The California Death Index shows Marie or Mary Ann French was born 27 May 1895 in Colorado and died in Los Angeles 6 Sep 1947. Her maiden name was Gillon and her mother's maiden name was Fleming. I suggest getting death certificate to get the parents' first names. It might also indicate where in colorado she was born. You might also try to get the obituaries for James and Mary Ann.

Some of these records you can look at for free at labs.familysearch.org and Ancestry.com. For those you cannot see for free I suggest checking with your local libraries to see if they have Ancestry or Heritage Quest.
