Hi everyone,

I'm looking for Clement C. Byrd of Appling County, GA. He was born Bet. 1843 - 1847 in Georgia, died after 1920, probably in Georgia.

Clem was the son of Lewis/Louis b ca 1811 and Sarah Purvis b ca 1821.

Clem's siblings were Demarias (sp? female), James A., Henry J., Charles, Daniel / David, William B., John, and Sarah. Their births range from 1839 through 1857.

Clem was married 3 times that I know of:
Jane E. b ca 1847 (issue: William H. b ca 1877 and Sidy E. (sp?) b ca 1878).

Cora A. MOORE b 1871-1873 died July 24, 1952. Divorced (or maybe never married?) before 1900 census. Issue: Mary/Mamie Lee (later known as Booth instead of Byrd). Mamie married William Todd of Ware County, GA. Mamie was born September 24, 1893 and died January 18, 1955 in Fulton County, GA.

Clem's third wife was Martha born March 08, 1853 and died bef 1920. She's buried in Sellers Cemetery, Appling County, Georgia. Issue: Lewis A. Byrd b March 1894.

Clem was in the Civil War:
Ancestry.com: American Civil War Soldiers
Name:                      Clement C Byrd ,
Residence:               Appling County, Georgia
Enlistment Date:        03 October 1861
Distinguished Service:        DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
Side Served:               Confederacy
State Served:               Georgia
Unit Numbers:               406 406
Service Record:               Enlisted as a Private on 03 October 1861 at the age of 18

Enlisted in Company A, 1st State Troops Regiment Georgia on 03 October 1861.

Mustered out Company A, 1st State Troops Regiment Georgia on 03 April 1862.

Enlisted in Company K, 54th Infantry Regiment Georgia on 16 May 1862.

Surrendered Company K, 54th Infantry Regiment Georgia on 10 May 1865 in Tallahassee, FL

Paroled on 16 May 1865 at Thomasville, GA

I'm most interested in Clem himself and his 2nd marriage (if there was one) to Cora A. Morgan. I question the marriage only because in the 1900 Census Cora was using her maiden name of MOORE. She is listed as divorced, but it is a bit unusual for someone during that time to go back to their maiden name while their child uses the father's name. Later on, Mamie would drop the BYRD surname in favor of BOOTH (a family name on Cora's side). Cora would also use BOOTH as a middle name during her second marriage. On Mamie's death certificate her father is listed simply as "Clem Byrd."

Any help on this line would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tara D. Fields
