Simeon Johnson and Martha Q. Bennett (twin of Margaret Bennett) lived off Highway 84 where the Big Satilla River goes under a bridge. Their home was about 100 yards off the highway. Simeon was a Primitive Baptist preacher. He was a con. objector of the Civil War. He volunteered at "last call" near Appling Co. (Screven or Baxley or Jesup). He served as a Prison Guard near Savannah (Fort Pulaski?) but history on Fort Pulaski shows it was not in operation during the whole war. How do I find where else he served as Guard in Georgia Prison Camps? He left before his son was born in 1861 - Thomas William Johnson.
Thomas William married Ellen Douglass, of Ga. They had no children, adopted 2 of Ellen's nieces. Moved to Lake Okechobee and ran the Pony Express Station there. Ellen died. Thomas William came back to Alabama where he married Willie D. Baldwin. One of their children, Wesley Kyle Johnson, married Sarah Ellen Carlisle. Thomas William Johnson b. 1861 d. 1942 and wife Willie D. Baldwin, AND Wesley Kyle Johnson and wife Sarah Ellen Carlisle are buried in St. Clair Co., Alabama. If anyone can share info. on Thomas Simeon Johnson and Martha Q. Bennett of Appling Co., Georgia, I would be most grateful.
