Athens-Clarke Co. Fire Chief Wendell Faulkner did a nice presentation for the Athens Historical Society at their October meeting. He also furnished the talk for publication in the AHS annual volume of papers called the "Athens Historian" which is coming out soon.
The story about Henry S. Vandiver was part of the article - Henry was in the accident Jan. 31, 1944 and finally died Feb. 22, 1944, and was buried in Oconee Hill Cemetery Feb. 23, 1944. He was born in Jackson Co., GA, in 1889 and was hired by the Athens Fire Dept. in 1921.
