According to Myldred Hutchins' book "The History of Auburn and Carl", the Perry-Rainey Institute was operating by 1888 as a boarding school for high school students. It was such a success it became a college in 1894. By 1909 it was owned by the Georgia Baptist Association and operated as a prep school, however, its graduates could enter college as sophomores. About 1914-15, the Baptist Church sold the school to the Christian Church, so the school became known as Southeastern Christian College. After the college ceased to operate in 1924, the building became the Auburn Consolidated School (grades 1-8) in 1928. I attended grades 1-6 in this old building in the 1950's. It was demolished and a new one-level school building was built in the late 1950's on the same property.
