Berrien County Weather History

Berrien County has been celebrating its 150th birthday this year, and I have many historical projects going on, including a compilation of weather stories. I have researched all the available newspapers for new coverage, but I need the stories and recollections from people who lived through these events. I will even accept "well Daddy always said ..." accounts of these events.

I would like to have this project completed before Christmas, so please send in your true account soon. I have given a listing below of some of the "major" weather stories in our county's history:

1932 -- tornado in East Berrien kills five people
1948 -- flooding so bad that the bridges on the Adel Highway were a foot under water
1952 -- tornado in Alapaha destroys most of the town
1955 -- "Rain Makers"
1957 -- flash flood washes Atlanta family off road and into culvert near Allenville
1958 -- SNOW
1962 -- McPherson Street tornado
1973 -- SNOW
1985 -- Hurricane Kate comes through
1989 -- SNOW
1993 -- "Blizzard of '93" -- more of a windstorm in south GA

There have been many other tornados, floods, hail storms, cold weather, etc., so if you are unsure of a date, let me know, and I will verify the event for you.
