Try looking in Screven County,Ga. There is extensive research on the LUCAS family which included the surname PERKINS. I believe it was John P. LUCAS. Cant remember at the moment if his mother was a Perkins and his initial P. was for Perkins............The reason I mention all this - most of this LUCAS family moved to East Texas with stops on the way. The Perkins family mentioned in their history was from Penn or New Jersey, originally.
It may sound goofy but worth a try. Lucas/Strickland/Mikell are some of my family surnames.
