Trying to determine where the Cates came from before Burke County. Early land records would be helpful. I have a family record of Elijah B Cates born 1822 in Georgia and family forward. Big question is where did this branch migrate from? There so many John, James, and Joesph Cates in those early years. Any help would be appreciated.
