What happened April 25, 1929?

Hello.

In researching the Hendrix, Rogers and Alderman families last night I realized that some tragedy occurred April 25, 1929 to several Candler families. Bertha Rogers Hendrix, her son Gersell Alderman, her daughter Bertha Hendrix, and her stepdaughter Cleo Hendrix were among more than a dozen Candler residents who died on that day. Apparently most of a Jones family died as well. Can anyone tell me what happened? I've tried "googling" but have not found anything that way.
