Carole,
Glad you're still on the Genforum site. I was afraid you might have dropped away. I found a source after we talked that listed historic places on the islands. Having been here before, you know there are several islands; Wilmington, Whitemarsh, Oatland, and Talahi. Apparently, years ago, what is now called Talahi was deemed a part of Wilmington. When the old descriptions located the vault as being on Wilmington Island, that was the case. According to the source I found, the vault is located on Falligant Avenue on what is now termed Talahi Island. Falligant is a long street that is located on the northern side of the island, running along the edge of the marshes overlooking the Savannah River shipping channel and the Bull River, if that gives you the location a bit better. If you were to take Quarterman Drive from Johnny Mercer Boulevard all the way across the beach road to Quarterman's dead end, you'd be at the intersection of Falligant Avenue. You would turn to the right. The vault location appeared to be down near where the street curves back to the south and becomes Brannen Drive. I could not find the specific street address, but found numbers very close. If you have Google Earth, go to "Brannen Drive/Falligant Avenue, Savannah, GA" This is the immediate area. I will try to locate the exact street address again (I do NOT know where I filed it!)and will get it to you as soon as I do.
Regards,
Eva
