Dear Eva: Thank you very much for the wonderful information regarding the Barnard Family Crypt and where it might be found. I really appreciate your help with the matter. The John Barnard Family goes back to the mid-1700's on Wilmington Island, GA and there should have been many burials on the island through the years. I cannot locate where Capt. John Barnard and his wife, Jane Bradley Barnard were buried. William Barnard who was their son; Williams's wife, Sarah; William,s son John; William,s grandson, John Barnard Cooper; William's son-in-law, John Cooper and countless more members of this family may have been buried on the island also. I cannot locate a burial site for any of the above-mentioned people who were a part of the Capt. John Barnard Family. They are not listed as being buried in the Colonial Cemetery in downtown Savannah. Since the only church in the colony of Georgia during Its very early years was Christ Church and Their burial ground was the Colonial Cemetery before the City of Savannah gained it, I thought that perhaps Capt. John Barnard and his wife, Jane, may have been buried in Colonial Cemetery; but I cannot locate their burial there. In circa 1860's Capt. John Barnard's son, John, moved some of the members of this family to burial lots in Laurel Grove Cemetery. I have studied his burial lots and cannot locate the members of the Barnard Family listed above. Therefore, I believe that it is a good possibility that the Barnard Crypt may still be in existence somewhere on Wilmington Island/Whitemarsh Island/Chatham County, GA. Thank you so very much for your offer of help. I have a simple map of the islands around Wilmington Island; but it does not list most of the streets. It just lists the large main boulevards. I hope to be able to come down to Savannah perhaps during October. Sincerely, Carole H. Melson. Notify Administrator about this message?
