Have you checked the Social Security Death Index (Google it)and wwwhhen it asks for the name just put the last name in the spot.Remember that SS is by region. sooooo, if you know where the person was in the late 40's about the time the cards were issued THAT is where you are going to look first. them scan through the named list and look for the appropriate dates or location of the death. Once you get to it you will understaand. It has been immeasurably helpful to me aand then you can send away for the SS-5 letter which should tell you some family members if the person put them on the original application.(just click on it and print one out-cost is about 27$)
