“MR. J. W. KING DIED AT BOX SPRINGS, GA.
“FORMER OWNER OF KING’S MILL AND A WELL KNOWN MERCHANT OF BOX SPRINGS.
“Mr. John W. KING, a highly esteemed and well known merchant of Box Springs, died at his home at that place at 12 o’clock last night, the immediate cause of his death being a stroke of paralysis from which he suffered about two weeks ago. Mr. KING had been in bad health for some time and his condition was such that he was not physically able to stand the shock. Mr. KING was well known as the owner of King’s mill [west of Box Springs, in Chattahoochee County, Georgia] which was purchased by the Columbus Fishing Club and made a summer resort for the club. He ran the mill for many years in connection with his other business, and had a large circle of friends and acquaintances, all of whom esteemed him very highly for his many fine qualities of heart and mind. He was born in the neighborhood where he spent most of his life, and was 56 years of age. He was a prominent and influential member of the Methodist church at Box Springs, and was a power for good in the church. Besides his wife, he is survived by five children: Misses Blanche, Mattie Kate, Grace, Mary Will, and [Mr.] Fred KING, all of Box Springs; one brother, Mr. Culven [sic – Cullen] KING of Ellaville; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. WEAVER of Columbus, and Mrs. J. W. LOWE of Opelika [Lee County, Alabama]. He also has one sister in Kentucky and one in Texas. He was an uncle of Mr. Edgar MAYO and a cousin of Mr. J. H. BOOTH of this city. The funeral takes place at Box Springs at 3 o’clock this afternoon, the interment being at the same place.”
