Overlooked Child of John Whelchel/Mary Tate in Gilmer/Cherokee Co.???

Help! I believe my gg-grandmother, Abigail Wilky, b. Sept. 1822 SC, was actually a Whelchel. She married William Coward 1843-1845 in Gilmer or Cherokee Co., GA. They moved to Logan Co., KY 1864-1867. I believe she was the 3rd child of John Whelchel and Mary Tate. A John Whelchel with matching family composition was next to Elihu Coward, William’s uncle, in 1840 Gilmer Co. census. My Abigail fits into their family and the census like a glove. John’s mother was Abigail Davis. However, the family trees that I have seen for this John and Mary Whelchel do not list her or an “unknown” child in the 3rd position. Can anyone help me prove that my Abigail was part of that family - Deeds, wills, etc???

Note that we always called her Wilky but to my knowledge never saw it in period records. I recently learned that Whelchel was sometimes pronounced Wilky in mid 1800 GA. The censuses certainly support that as they switch between spellings, as well as other spellings. Also I have ruled out the Abigail child of Frances Whelchel (John’s brother) and Nancy Crawley. She was still in his household after my Abigail was in her own household.

Will certainly appreciate any help and suggestions.
